Almost Had Carnegie Hall

Looks like Nick’s Carnegie Hall debut is going to be delayed.

The concert Nick is orchestrating and conducting on December 20 has had a venue change. Some unexpected labor costs have forced the producers to change the concert venue from Zankel Hall in Carnegie Hall to the Wilkins Theatre on the campus of Kean University. And though it’s not as glamorous a hall it’s certainly a beautiful and well equipped theatre and everyone is expecting an enjoyable and festive evening.

Nick’s arranged and orchestrated 14 pieces for the show, which boasts a 22 piece orchestra of top-notch professionals, many of whom are taking off their Broadway jobs for the night to play the show. Colin Freeman and Dave Malyszko have each orchestrated two of the charts as well. The cast features Faculty, staff and grad students from Kean University, which is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this year. Also in the cast are two guest artists: Gerritt VanDerMeer and Daphne Rubin-Vega, an original cast member of the Broadway hit, Rent. Tickets are by invitation only (consider this yours) and may be reserved by calling 908-737-7469.

Nick’s tentatively booked to arrange and orchestrate a new musical version of Fanny Hill slated to open on Valentine’s Day 2006 at the York Theatre in New York City. Based on the bawdy classic of the same name, the show has book, music and lyrics by Ed Dixon. Though only calling for a band of three players, Nick’s excited to be a part of this wonderful new show and looking forward to the creative challenges it presents.

The second draft of the 9 O’Clock Players Cinderella has arrived and Nick plans to get started on it as soon as the December 20 concert is over. Scott Guy has created a wonderful play that Nick can’t wait to get started on musicalizing.

And Darby O’Gill and the Leprechaun Queen is currently being reviewed by the creative and business staffs at McCoy Rigby and a decision regarding the future of the show is expected to be made soon.
