Doctor Doolittle Has Closed

Doctor Dolittle has closed. A closing notice was posted on Tuesday September 27. Concerns regarding poor attendance and some “not so stellar reviews” have forced the producers to cancel the tour. As of now there are no official plans to remount it, though rumors abound. I do believe there will be a new production, but as far as Nick’s role in that we just don’t know.  I’ll post an update here when an official word is given, but for now the last performance of Doctor Dolittle was in Hershey, PA on Sunday, October 2 at 7:30PM. It’s too bad; the show had a lot of promise, and the cast was absolutely terrific. Ah well, so it goes.

In other news: McCoy/Rigby has requested another writing sample before making a decision regarding Darby O’Gill. ANMT has written a prologue to the show that reflects M/R’s request for the show to be darker. The three composers in contention (of which Nick is one) have been requested to write a “spooky” underscore for the opening scene and one more song which follows. The due date is October 22 with the presentation to M/R the following week. Nick is excited about his prospects; this type of writing is certainly one of his strong points.

Cinderella is in a holding pattern while the first draft of the script is revised. Nick is hoping to be able to begin writing on his unexpected hiatus.

A personal note from Nick: I will truly miss the people of the Dolittle company, a group of people who maintained their professionalism and pleasant demeanor through exceedingly difficult times. I wish them all the enormous success they deserve and look forward to working with each of them many times again.
