Sisters of Swing is a Hit!
Sisters of Swing is well on its way to becoming a real winner. The show opens at the Pennsylvania Center Stage in State College, PA on July 14, with previews beginning on July 11. Based on the life of the Andrews Sisters, the show is directed by Richard Sabellico and stars Catherine Walker as Patty, Stacey Harris as Maxene and Angela Howell as Laverne and of course Nick will handle the musical direction. Nick is enjoying working with this talented group of people very much and looks forward to future collaborations a swell. Interestingly, one of Nick’s very good friends knows Patty Andrews very well and is attempting to arrange a conversation between her and Catherine Walker (who just booked her first Broadway show as Mary Poppins’ understudy); talk about research, huh?
Nick will be the musical director as well as the arranger and orchestrator for the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s 25th anniversary gala, in October. The New Jersey Theatre Alliance is an organization of the professional theatres in NJ, including Paper Mill Playhouse, McCarter Theatre and NJ Shakespeare among others. Along with orchestrating/arranging and conducting that night, Nick will also be writing a couple specialty numbers to open and close the show. The emcees tentatively scheduled are Broadway star Leroy Reams and Jane Krakowski. Susie Speidel and Mark Hoebe of Paper Mill will direct.
