The Plexiglass Slipper Opens

The Plexiglass Slipper opened on November 25 and has received wonderful notices across the board. Running in rep at the Asolo through Jan 4, the show is a delightful re-telling of the classic Cinderella story with music by Scott Warrender and book and lyrics by Jim Luigs, the same team who brought you Das Barbecu. Patti Allison stars as Cinderella’s Godmother, with a wonderful cast led by Kris Danford and Ned Noyes as Cinderella and her Prince, Suzanne Grodner as the evil (but NOT ugly) Stepmother, Brian Torfeh as the King and Josh Rowan & Jaime Tintor as the Stepsisters (yes, they’re men). The show also marks the return to the stage of Tony award winning actress Wanda Richert as the Queen. Wanda won the 1980 best actress Tony for creating the role of Peggy Sawyer in the original 42nd Street. She’s still tapping up a storm and performs a show-stopping number created for her by AC Ciulla (choreography) and Nick (dance arrangement) that brings down the house every night. Welcome back, Wanda!

Upon returning to NJ in January, Nick will complete the recording of his own Cinderella: The True Story with the help of Ned Noyes and the wonderful Kate Baldwin. The stage version of the show (with book and lyrics by 6 time Emmy nominee Scott Guy and music by Nick) will run for 6 weeks at the Nine O’Clock Players in Los Angeles opening in early February.

Nick has been commissioned by the Key West Pops to create an arrangement of Betty Hutton’s greatest hits to be performed by Susan Speidel at a series of concerts in March 2007. Nick will orchestrate the piece as well.
