photo_nick_conductorNick DeGregorio is a composer and conductor with over 100 theatrical music direction credits, including DeafWest’s Big River at the Ford’s Theatre for which he received a 2006 Helen Hayes Awards “Outstanding Music Direction” nomination.

Nick’s conducted and/or played for Randy Newman, Bernadette Peters, Marvin Hamlisch, Liza Minelli, Lorna Luft, Juliet Prowse, Morey Amsterdam, Carol Channing, John Denver, and Glen Campbell. He has been Hal Linden’s conductor and music director, was Dorothy Lamour’s music director for five years, and provided the music direction for the LA Friar’s Club roast of Carl Reiner.

Nick was the associate conductor on the Los Angeles premiere of By Jeeves and worked directly with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Ayckbourn on the mounting of that production. He also spent several weeks working with Leslie Bricusse on the pre-Broadway tour of Doctor Dolittle and conducted Mame starring Juliet Prowse, with Jerry Herman actively participating in the rehearsal process. Nick also worked directly with Randy Newman and Michael Roth in the creation of The Education of Randy Newman at South Coast Repertory Theatre.

Nick was the associate conductor for the 1st National tours of 42nd Street and Big River, and the PCLO/Nederlander tour of Doctor Dolittle starring Tom Hewitt. He was nominated for a “Best Music Direction” award in 1999 for the Los Angeles premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Passion for MTG and the Reprise! series. He’s provided the music direction for shows at The Alex Theatre, Asolo Rep, The Cape Playhouse, Fords Theater, The Freud Playhouse, North Shore Music Theatre, the Pasadena Playhouse, Pennsylvania Center Stage, Sacramento Theater Company,  South Coast Rep, Theatre By The Sea, and the York Theatre, as well as the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards.

Nick’s conducted the Phoenix Symphony Pops, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Les Brown’s Band of Renown, and the Ocean City Pops and has played the piano with the St. Louis, San Jose, Utah, Ottawa, Rochester, Baltimore, Winnipeg, Florida, and Pittsburgh Symphony Pops Orchestras.

On Broadway, Nick played piano in the pit for 42nd Street.

Off-Broadway, Nick wrote the orchestrations for Ed Dixon’s Fanny Hill. He also orchestrated for Lorna Luft’s touring show and Barry Manilow produced recording, Songs My Mother Taught Me. Nick was music director and orchestrator for the world premiere of Larry O’Keefe’s Rockne and was contracted to orchestrate White Christmas at Carnegie Hall. He was MD, dance arranger, and orchestrator for the world premiere of Warrender and Luigs’ The Plexiglass Slipper, starring Wanda Richert, and for the Key West Pops, Nick arranged and orchestrated A Betty Hutton Medley. He also wrote orchestrations for Mitzi Gaynor’s show, Razzle Dazzle.

Nick has sailed to Athens, Rome and Dubrovnik as Lorna Luft’s conductor. He spent a week in Maui as the MD for a Senior PGA Tour event and spent a year touring South Korea and mainland China, first as associate and then as music director and conductor for the Nederlander/Broadway Asia production of 42nd Street, directed by Mark Bramble.

Nick recently worked on two Broadway bound workshops: Sugar Babies (as music director), starring Tony winners Beth Leavell and Michael McGrath, and Serrano (as associate conductor), starring James Barbour and Michael Nouri. In October 2013, Nick played a benefit concert for breast cancer at Birdland in NYC starring Lorna Luft and Liza Minelli. In July of 2015 he conducted and re-orchestrated My Fair Lady at the Cape Playhouse, starring Ashley Brown and Jeff McCarthy and directed by Hunter Foster.

Nick has written the score to six musical comedies: Pinocchio, Sherlock Holmes, Happily Never After, Cinderella: The True Story, and  Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart.  He co-wrote the score to the newest Van Zandt/Milmore musical, High School Reunion: The Musical, which premiered in May of 2009.  High School Reunion: The Musical, is listed in the Samuel French catalog.

Nick also plays keyboards for the Duprees and is a music supervisor for Norwegian Cruise Lines.
